My Home

I think my evil plan for world domination may have got off to a bad start, at least with these robots as my minions! Aren’t they cute? I got them from Alouette at the latest Geeks’n’Nerds event where I also found this equally cutesy hair from Wasabi Pills and this stunning Angora jumper and matching pleated skirt from bonne chance.  There is a hud for the skirt that gives a number of equally delightful colour choices to this one.  The pose is from the awesome new Lulu set from Imeka.

The bottom pic is the result of a random visit to the Legal Insanity where I found this amazing sixties style mini dress that was just made for this pose! As you can see I’ve been back to the D!va mainstore and got this blonde version of their lovely Aya hair.

As I mentioned in my last post, the Second Life Flickr world has gone ‘Bare Face Challenge’-crazy! I’m nothing if not a bandwagon jumper so here are my two efforts :). In the top pic I’ve cheated slightly by doing before makeup and after makeup pics. Which do you prefer? I think I prefer the unadorned me. The bottom pic is the first I posted and I really do think that this Curio skin looks perfect without makeup – really cute!

Has everyone seen the SL Bare Face Challenge? It’s interesting how just like in real life people look so different without makeup – I know I certainly do. I rather anticipated the challenge when I took the top pic. I hadn’t then heard of the challenge but still did a pic without makeup. Spooky or what?! Anyway, here’s my ‘official’ entry.

The outfit this week comes from coldLogic. At lot of second life fashion brings out the teenager in me but I love the way their stuff makes me look, well, adult! It’s proper grown up fashion for proper grown up women and I like that! I love the detail of their textures too. Anyway, the top and scarf are brand new and the pants I’ve matched with them are (I think) from a while back. They go together well I think.  In the bottom pic I’ve collected together a few more new things from Collabor88: the lovely new skin from Glam Affair, the relaxing rocking chair from LISP and those crazy foxes from MishMish!

P.S. In case you’re wondering, the title of the top pic on Flickr comes from an Emily Dickinson poem. I sang settings of some of her poems a while back and she is amazing – totally unique. The title of the bottom pic comes from my favourite band Saint Etienne – I am totally in love with Sarah Cracknell! ❤️

A while back I spent a few days on Second Life seeing what was the best dress I could get for nothing (I can be a real cheapskate when I put my mind to it) and this beautiful little number from Sassy! that was available as a gift at FabFree HQ won hands down. Sadly I wasn’t blogging then and I searched high and low today and couldn’t find it, but it’s still worth following the link above to the FabFree store to find other bargains. And visit Sassy for some incredibly sassy (!) dresses. The wedges were another bargain I found around the same time – only 100L from Baby Monkey (and don’t worry, I checked, they are still available!). To complete the Bargain Hunting, the phone and pose are a dollarbie from Label Motion available on Marketplace. The hair is one of my all time favourites from my inventory, the Maisy hair from Truth – so sexxxxxy!

Bye for now

OK! A day of from fashion today to show the results of some of my experiments with Photoshop.  A couple of self portraits showing me up close and personal.  They’re also showing off my D!va hair, which I don’t think I’ll ever fall out of love with – it’s so realistic it’s not true!  The pics also show my two favourite skins of the moment, by Izzie’s and Curio. Back to normal fashion business in the next post!

Alirium http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/alirium/195/65/1607

Around this time last year in real life I spent some time in the deserts of California.  There are many beautiful locations in Second Life, but until I visited Alirium I hadn’t found anywhere that gave a proper widescreen, big-sky, light-filled experience that you get in the American deserts. I don’t know how they do it, but Alirium gives you that experience and is well worth a visit, not least because it’s incredibly photogenic. It was a great place for showing this new-ish crop top and matching stretch pants from the wonder that is Maitreya. Sometimes their stuff is so beautiful it makes me cry.  I can’t wait for their new mesh body – it looks like it will be AMAZING!!! And yes the chair in the bottom pic does like it is kept up by the power of thought!

I’m still getting into the hang of this fashion blogging lark, so there are inevitably things that I will miss. One event that I hadn’t been aware of was The Chapter Four. It runs from the 4th of the month for three weeks which basically means, I guess, that it finishes tomorrow. On the basis of ‘better late than never’ I went to see what goodies they had on offer and found this sweet little denim dress from trauma that came with a matching ‘vest’, or jacket as we would call it in the YooKay. My friend Anasyro runs an Arts Centre on the Wanderstill sim which I thought would be perfect for taking pictures and so, wearing my new Harmony hair from Magika, I popped over.  My date didn’t show up though, as you can see from the bottom pic 😠.

Rowne http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Rowne/194/84/22 (bottom pic)

I’ve talked previously about Second Life clothes that I would wear if I could in real life. Here’s another entry in that category, an absolutely delightful midi dress from Mikunch with an unbelievably cute matching mini cardigan. I LOVE the little flower trim!. I would wear this in real life in an instant! I matched it with my Nicole hair from D!va and the beautiful Decoy Aria heels that are still available at Collabor88. I went to Athan Selidor to take the first picture to show how the classical beauty of the surroundings matched the classical simplicity of the dress.

I then struggled for the right shot to show the whole dress and how pretty it was, as most poses I found apart from stiff standing ones didn’t do it justice. I had to find an interesting way to picture one of those poses, so an idea came to me as I was peering inside the lighthouse at the Rowne sim.  I realised that if I took a picture looking straight up it would look like a tunnel.  It was then a simple matter of taking a picture of myself at my N30 studio and then using Gimp, the poor woman’s Photoshop :), to overlay me on the lighthouse picture to make me appear an ethereal presence coming out of the light (ooooerr!).

My N30 Photography Studio

One of the worst bugbears of Second Life is forgetting all the wonderful stuff you’ve bought.  You know what it’s like – you buy what you think is the best dress ever in the whole world and three weeks later you’ve bought half a dozen more and you forgot you ever got it, despite it still being gorgeous.  So… I thought that from time to time when (especially when my SL funds are getting a bit low!) I’d feature some of the forgotten treasures from the back of my SL wardrobe. This first post features three lovely mini dresses.

I’ve got so much stuff from The Secret Store recently that I’d forgotten I got this beautifully simple dress with a clever bow-shaped collar.  I’ve paired it with some retro-style heels from HOC which have a great colour HUD, including some wonderful poppy colours if you are a group member.  In the middle is a lovely little peplum dress with a twist by Eclectic that I’ve paired with my Satin Wrap heels for Slink medium feet from Leverocci. The pièce de résistance is the dress on the right, a stunning one shoulder dress from FLRN which I’ve paired with my new heels from Decoy.  Would you believe this is a group gift, still available at the FLRN store? I think it’s one of the most detailed and stylish group gifts I’ve ever seen.

Why not try a bit of rummaging yourselves? You never know what gems you might find!

As you may have noticed I’m a great fan of Autumn (the proper name for Fall for those of you on the western side of the Atlantic Ocean😊).  As least I am when the days are bright, cool and colourful, which of course they always are in Second Life!  I finally managed to make it to The Season’s Story (at about the 1,000th attempt) and the first thing I picked up was this adorable high-necked coat with matching pleated skirt, courtesy of MotiAme.  Coupled with some warm tights and my favourite Redgrave boots and I feel snug as a bug in a rug and ready to enjoy the season.

Love and kisses Rachel xxx
